The Brief

Building a fitness app that makes hybrid training accessible, enjoyable, and empowering for women at every fitness level.

Revie Jane Schulz is a Gold Coast-based fitness coach, entrepreneur, and content creator who has built one of Australia's most engaged online fitness communities, with over 246,000 Instagram followers and a reputation for making training genuinely enjoyable. After opening her own gym on the Gold Coast at just 21 years old - the first all-women's CrossFit affiliate in the region - Revie spent six years coaching hundreds of women through her doors before expanding her reach online. She has since published seven structured fitness programs through her website, launched the Empowered With Revie podcast, and founded activewear label Alitah State.

Through more than a decade of hands-on coaching experience, Revie identified a critical gap in the market: hybrid training - combining running, functional conditioning, and resistance training - felt complicated, overwhelming, and intimidating for most women. Existing fitness apps tended to focus on a single training style, leaving women who wanted variety without a proper home. The vision behind Revia was clear: create a space where women could move, sweat, and surprise themselves without the intimidation factor that plagued existing fitness platforms.

Revia needed to be more than another cookie-cutter workout app. It required a sophisticated platform that could deliver structured programs alongside flexible on-demand content, meeting users wherever they were in their fitness journey while growing with them. The three core programs each served a different need: Hybrid Beginners for women wanting to train across multiple disciplines, 5 Weeks to 5K for new or returning runners, and Revia at Home for anyone training from their living room or garage with minimal equipment.

The challenge extended beyond technical execution. The app needed to balance comprehensive functionality - including video demonstrations, progress tracking, achievement systems, and content management - with an intuitive user experience that would appeal to beginners and intermediate athletes alike. With three distinct programs serving different fitness goals and equipment setups, the platform architecture required careful planning to ensure effective content delivery, strong user engagement, and a foundation that could scale as Revie's community continued to grow.

Our Solution

We architected a comprehensive fitness app ecosystem using Flutter for cross-platform mobile delivery, ensuring Revie Jane Schulz's coaching reached both iOS and Android users with native performance from a single codebase. The development centred around three core programs - Hybrid Beginners, 5 Weeks to 5K, and Revia at Home - each with unique equipment requirements and training methodologies designed by Revie for women at every fitness level. Alongside these structured programs, the platform delivers 80+ on-demand workout sessions that users can access at any time, providing flexibility for women who prefer to train on their own schedule.

The platform's foundation used our QuickLaunch framework, accelerating development whilst maintaining enterprise-grade quality. We implemented Auth0 for secure authentication, supporting email and password login as well as third-party sign-ins through Google and Apple accounts - removing friction from the signup process and letting users get started within seconds. The subscription billing model integrated across Apple App Store, Google Play, and Stripe for web sign-ups, managing monthly and annual plans with proper renewal and cancellation handling. This multi-platform payment approach ensured Revie's audience could subscribe through whichever channel they preferred, whether discovering the app through the App Store, a social media link, or Revie's own website.

Content delivery required sophisticated integration with Vimeo for optimised video hosting, ensuring smooth playback regardless of location or connection quality. Given Revie's global audience spanning Australia, the United States, and Europe, reliable video streaming was essential. Users can view detailed workout explanations, follow video demonstrations, record weights and reps, and track their progress through an engaging Trophy Wall achievement system. This gamification layer was designed to drive user retention and long-term habit formation - rewarding consistency and effort rather than just outcomes, which aligns with Revie's coaching philosophy of meeting women where they are.

The React-based admin portal empowers Revie Jane's team to manage content effortlessly, uploading new programs and workouts with automatic synchronisation across all platforms. This means new training content can go live across iOS, Android, and web simultaneously without requiring a developer. We also integrated podcast support directly within the app, allowing Revie and her co-host Paige to deliver their training and lifestyle discussions through the same platform where users work out - keeping the entire community experience in one place.

We implemented AWS cloud infrastructure with performance optimisation, security configurations, and monitoring and logging tools to ensure reliable operation under varying loads. Automated testing through the development process and error detection via Airbrake provided confidence that the platform would perform reliably at scale, particularly important for handling the traffic surge expected at launch given Revie's substantial social media following.

The four-month development timeline delivered a polished product that launched successfully in November 2025, reaching #3 in Apple's Health & Fitness category within 48 hours. This result validated both the market demand for Revie Jane's hybrid training approach and the quality of execution - proving that with the right technical foundation, a fitness creator's vision can translate into an app that competes at the highest level from day one.
